Mumbai, June 19 (NationPress) Esteemed actress Zeenat Aman has fondly recalled her youthful infatuation with Shashi Kapoor, which blossomed into a treasured professional collaboration.
Zeenat recently took to Instagram to post a nostalgic moment from her 1978 film “Satyam Shivam Sundaram”, in which she starred alongside the legendary actor.
In her caption, she expressed: “With those twinkling eyes and charming features, Shashi Kapoor was a dream for every Indian schoolgirl! Myself included.”
“I first laid eyes on him while still in boarding school. He visited Panchgani with the Shakespearean theatre group (including his future wife Jennifer) to perform Shakespeare! And oh my, he had all the girls in a daze.”
The actress recounted how, eager to see Shashi Kapoor, she and her friends convinced their parents they needed some fresh air.
“As fate would have it, Shashi was a resident of South Bombay and lived quite close to me. Naturally, news spread that “THE” Shashi Kapoor took his evening strolls at 6 PM sharp.”
Zeenat elaborated: “My friends and I, caught up in youthful excitement, spent an entire winter vacation persuading our parents that a sunset walk was crucial for our health. In reality, we were just hoping to catch a glimpse of the movie star in his shorts!”
Reflecting on her career interactions with Shashi Kapoor, she remarked: “I found myself in the company of a witty, intelligent, and charming individual. He had a knack for humor and warmth, and we starred together in several iconic films like Roti, Kapada Aur Makaan, Chori Mera Kaam, and Vakil Babu.
“While I've already discussed Satyam Shivam Sundaram extensively, I chose to share this clip for two reasons.”
Regarding the clip she shared on Instagram, where Shashi Kapoor kissed Zeenat, she said: “Firstly, it marked a significant moment in my career. It was my first on-screen kiss, and although it stirred quite a commotion back then, it’s rather innocent.”
“I truly felt no discomfort while filming it.”
Zeenat added: “Secondly, schoolgirl Zeenat would be absolutely thrilled by the audacity of this post, realizing that a schoolgirl crush can come to life, even if only on film!”
“He was a kind and remarkable man, and it’s genuinely special to see his legacy thriving in my neighborhood through Prithvi Theatre.
