New Delhi, Oct 31 (NationPress) The technology powerhouse Apple is set to alert one million individuals regarding hypertension — a high blood pressure condition that affects approximately 1.3 billion adults worldwide — via the notification feature on the Apple Watch, as announced by CEO Tim Cook.
This innovative hypertension notification system — available on Apple Watch Series 9, Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Ultra 3 — will alert users if it detects signs of chronic high blood pressure.
“With our latest Apple Watch series, we are thrilled to roll out hypertension notifications, which were developed using extensive machine learning models. Hypertension is one of the primary risk factors for heart attack and stroke, impacting over one billion adults globally, and we anticipate notifying more than one million users about this serious health issue,” stated Cook during the company's Q4 2025 earnings call on Thursday (US time).
“Artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning are integral to robust health features such as heart rate monitoring, fall detection, crash detection, and more,” he added.
Hypertension, often referred to as a silent condition, frequently goes undiagnosed due to the absence of symptoms.
The hypertension notifications on the Apple Watch utilize data from the optical heart sensor to assess how a user’s blood vessels react to the heartbeats. The algorithm operates passively in the background, analyzing data over 30-day intervals, and will alert users if it consistently identifies signs of hypertension.
Cook also revealed that the Apple Watch will assist in enhancing sleep scores.
“We are also enthusiastic about the sleep score feature, which provides a straightforward and intuitive way for users to comprehend their sleep quality and discover methods to enhance it. This is something we can all benefit from,” said the Apple CEO.
Cook noted that the company generated $9 billion in the wearables, home, and accessories sector.
“We were thrilled to unveil new opportunities for users with the launch of our latest Apple Watch lineup, making the world’s most popular watch even better. This includes the Apple Watch Ultra 3 with the largest display ever in an Apple Watch, enhanced battery life, and emergency SOS via satellite. Apple Watch Series 11 offers our users the most extensive set of health features to date. Additionally, the Apple Watch SE 3 provides advanced capabilities at an incredible value,” he concluded.
