Thiruvananthapuram, July 2 (NationPress) Whistleblower Dr. Haris Chirackal, who recently brought attention to the lack of surgical equipment and administrative failures at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and Hospital, stated on Wednesday that he has made a choice he refers to as 'professional suicide'.
Dr. Chirackal is a well-known urologist and the head of the Urology Department at this hospital.
His candid remarks have been met with admiration from nearly everyone except the ruling CPI(M)-led Left government, especially after he discovered that he could not proceed with a surgery for an 18-year-old boy, who is the same age as his own son, due to a shortage of medical supplies.
In his statement to the media, Chirackal expressed his respect for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, despite CM Vijayan's dissatisfaction with his comments.
“I am aware that my actions constitute a form of professional suicide. Regardless of any repercussions I might face, I will remain true to my convictions. I have not criticized the Health Minister or the cabinet. The solution to this situation lies in reform from the bureaucracy,” said Chirackal.
“I don’t feel distressed by CM Vijayan's remarks as I view him as a mentor. I felt compelled to speak out after exhausting all avenues,” added Chirackal.
