Bengaluru, Aug 20 (NationPress) Following the Karnataka government's recent endorsement of internal reservations, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalawadi Narayanaswamy, expressed concerns on Wednesday, stating that this decision diverges from the conclusions drawn by the Nagamohan Das Commission.
Addressing reporters at Vidhana Soudha, he remarked, "This move does not align with the Supreme Court’s directives nor the recommendations of the Sadashiva Commission. Additionally, the insights provided by the Nagamohan Das Commission have been overlooked."
He elaborated, "Justice Nagamohan Das had classified communities into five distinct groups. However, the Congress government has ignored this classification and narrowed it down to three groups – Left, Right, and Touchables. How will you ensure justice for nomadic communities and for original castes that lack recognition?"
He further criticized that rather than addressing existing issues, the government has compounded the confusion.
"Our administration had enhanced the reservation quota and established internal reservations across four categories. You have dismantled that structure, resulting in chaos. Previously, you segmented castes into groups merely to secure votes and gain political leverage," he alleged.
"You have maintained the same 17 percent reservation that we implemented. For your inconsistency, you owe an apology to the citizens of the state," Narayanaswamy urged the Chief Minister.
Present at the meeting were Legislative Council Opposition Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, former BJP National General Secretary and MLC C.T. Ravi, along with MLCs D.S. Arun and K. Pratap Simha Nayak.
A special cabinet meeting convened on Wednesday resolved to introduce a 6-6-5 reservation formula concerning internal reservations.
The Congress-led Karnataka government held a late Tuesday night special cabinet meeting to evaluate the report presented by Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das on internal reservations.
Internal reservations have been allocated by categorizing sub-castes into three groups: right, left, and others.
