New York, June 15 (NationPress) In a society increasingly captivated by superficial wellness trends, a significant initiative is about to illuminate yoga’s inner essence in the US, as cities around the world gear up to commemorate the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21.
‘The Spirit of Yoga’, a unique celebration for the International Day of Yoga, will be co-hosted by the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization at the tranquil Global Harmony House in Great Neck on Long Island on June 22, as per a statement released by the organizers on Sunday.
While many Yoga Day festivities center on physical postures and public displays of flexibility, The Spirit of Yoga event aims to reclaim the essence of yoga, reigniting its spiritual foundations.
This gathering will feature a distinguished roster of dignitaries, spiritual leaders, and practitioners who will share wisdom, inspiration, and the lived experience of yogic values with approximately 250 participants in the hall and many more joining virtually.
Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, the Consul General of India in New York, will serve as the Chief Guest, delivering remarks on India’s gift of yoga to the globe, accompanied by BK Mohini Didi, the esteemed Chief Administrative Head of the Brahma Kumaris international organization.
Set against the peaceful backdrop of Global Harmony House, a spiritual haven and the regional headquarter of the Brahma Kumaris for the Americas and the Caribbean, this gathering is crafted to be an immersive, reflective, and celebratory experience.
“In today’s commercialized wellness realm, yoga is frequently diminished to mere fitness,” stated Gayatri Naraine, the NGO representative of the Brahma Kumaris at the UN. “However, the authentic spirit of yoga involves connecting to our highest self, to the Supreme, via spiritual awareness.”
“Our focus is on yoga as a way of being, grounded in awareness, self-realization, and harmony,” said Parveen Chopra, Founding Editor of ALotusInTheMud.com and co-moderator of the event. “Yoga, as outlined in Patanjali’s 8-limbed path, reaches its fulfillment in dhyan; asanas are merely a part and accessory.”
