Kolkata, June 15 (NationPress) A seven-member medical board has been formed by the management of a private hospital in South Kolkata, where the former Calcutta High Court judge and BJP MP from the Tamluk Constituency in West Bengal, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, was admitted late Saturday night due to severe abdominal pain.
This medical board comprises specialists from various disciplines, including internal medicine, critical care, cardiology, pulmonology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, and GI surgery.
According to a statement from the hospital, investigations have confirmed a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis accompanied by gastrointestinal sepsis. At present, Gangopadhyay is under stringent observation in the ICU. Although he is stable, he is considered critically ill and requires ongoing monitoring. The multidisciplinary medical board, which includes specialists in internal medicine and critical care, as well as cardiologists, pulmonologists, endocrinologists, gastroenterologists, and GI surgeons, has been established to facilitate a thorough and coordinated approach to managing his condition.
Hospital insiders revealed that multiple medical tests have been performed on Gangopadhyay, and the medical board will determine the next steps in treatment based on the results.
He was admitted after experiencing acute abdominal pain and vomiting.
Gangopadhyay has been in the news frequently over the past two years due to his rulings on the high-profile cash-for-school job scandal in West Bengal. His observations regarding the corruption in the school job case have also attracted significant national interest.
Prior to the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he resigned from his position as a judge of the Calcutta High Court and was nominated by the BJP to contest from the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency, which has historically been a stronghold of the Trinamool Congress.
Nonetheless, Gangopadhyay triumphed in the elections, defeating Trinamool Congress candidate Debangshu Bhattacharya by a significant margin of 77,773 votes.
