According to the department's release, there are 197 diagnosed patients with GBS and 28 suspected cases.
Among these, 46 patients hail from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), 95 from newly incorporated villages in the PMC area, 33 from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, 37 from Pune Rural, and 14 from other districts.
To date, 179 patients have been discharged, while 24 are in the ICU and 15 are on ventilators.
“GBS is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system. It is characterized by muscle weakness and, in severe cases, paralysis,” the release stated.
Common symptoms of GBS include sudden weakness in the hands or legs, difficulty in walking, and diarrhea lasting for extended periods.
The department advises maintaining good water quality, particularly by drinking boiled water. Additionally, food should be fresh and clean, while avoiding stale or partially cooked items (like chicken or mutton).
The public is urged to remain calm and visit a government hospital if any symptoms arise. Preventive measures should also be implemented.
Individuals should avoid sending water samples for testing independently.
