Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kabul, March 18 (NationPress) – The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, conducted a virtual conference with Afghan diplomats stationed at embassies and consulates worldwide on Wednesday. He provided essential instructions and insights regarding Kabul's definitive stance, policies, and forthcoming actions in response to Pakistan's tragic airstrike on a drug treatment facility that resulted in numerous fatalities.
The Afghan Foreign Ministry reported that during this meeting, the minister discussed the offensive against the national sovereignty of Afghanistan by the Pakistani military and the recent incidents. He vehemently denounced the brutal attack, labeling it a direct violation of humanitarian principles. Muttaqi urged all diplomatic officials to communicate the Islamic Emirate's position regarding the current situation in Afghanistan to the global community.
“The Foreign Minister provided vital instructions and insights to his team about the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan's clear position and future strategies. The session concluded with prayers for the martyrs who lost their lives due to the Pakistani bombing,” the statement from Kabul detailed.
On the previous day, Muttaqi condemned the Pakistani airstrike as a severe breach of humanitarian and Islamic values. He noted that over 408 individuals had been killed, and more than 260 injured, mostly patients at the rehabilitation center. He accused Pakistan of intentionally targeting civilian infrastructures.
Addressing diplomats and representatives from various organizations in Kabul, he remarked that the Pakistani airstrike affected one of society's most vulnerable groups—those undergoing treatment for drug dependency. He expressed that recurrent assaults since February, including strikes on civilian locales across Afghanistan, have eroded trust in diplomatic resolutions. He cautioned that if such attacks persist, Afghan forces would implement “proportionate and legitimate” defensive measures, asserting that while Afghanistan seeks peace, it will defend its sovereignty and territory, as reported by Ariana News.
Muttaqi called on the international community to denounce Pakistan’s aggression, warning that ongoing escalations from Islamabad could destabilize the broader region, jeopardizing major economic and development projects.
Meanwhile, Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, demanded a prompt, independent, and transparent investigation into the Pakistani airstrike on the Kabul rehabilitation center. He insisted that victims and their families should receive compensation.
“I echo the need for a thorough investigation into the airstrike by Pakistan impacting a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul, which reportedly resulted in numerous casualties. Those accountable must be held responsible, and reparations made to the victims and their families,” Bennett stated on X.
This statement followed a UN Human Rights post on X, which called for accountability regarding the explosion at the drug rehabilitation facility in Kabul.
“We urge investigations and accountability for the tragic blast at the Kabul rehabilitation center, which left many patients deceased. All parties must take effective measures to ensure civilian protection,” stated the UN Human Rights office.
