Is There a Clear Breach of International Law and Islamic Values with the Recent Pakistani Strikes?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kabul, Feb 22 (NationPress) The Ministry of National Defence of Afghanistan has alleged that the Pakistani military regime conducted lethal airstrikes targeting various residential sectors in the Nangarhar and Paktika provinces, leading to numerous civilian casualties.
As per the Ministry's statement, these strikes hit a madrasa and several homes, resulting in the deaths and injuries of "many civilians", particularly women and children.
This infringement of Afghan airspace is described by Kabul as part of ongoing Pakistani hostility.
In a strong condemnation, the Afghan Ministry labeled the strikes a blatant infringement of Afghanistan's national sovereignty and a serious violation of international law, principles of good neighborliness, and Islamic values.
The Ministry expressed its commitment to protecting Afghanistan's sovereignty and the safety of its citizens as both a religious duty and a national obligation, warning that an "appropriate and measured response will be forthcoming at the right time."
"Attacks on civilian populations and religious institutions are clear indicators of the failures of the Pakistani military's intelligence and security. Such acts of aggression will never disguise their internal inadequacies," the Ministry asserted.
The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) voiced concerns regarding confirmed reports of a devastating airstrike in the Behsud district of Nangarhar.
According to local sources cited by the rights organization, a Pakistani military strike targeted a civilian residence, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 members of a single family, including men, women, and children aged from one year to 80 years.
"Two children survived the attack, and at least one other person was injured. This not only signifies a loss of life but also the complete destruction of a family lineage," stated the IHRF.
The organization called for an immediate, independent, and transparent international inquiry into the airstrike.
Furthermore, it demanded accountability for those responsible for executing this attack and insisted on unimpeded humanitarian access for the affected families in Behsud.
Expressing solidarity with the Afghan populace, the IHRF urged respect for the rights and lives of Afghan civilians.
