Tokyo, Aug 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday commenced his trip to China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, which kicks off on Sunday, after a productive two-day engagement in Japan.
The SCO summit is set to take place in China from August 31 to September 1. This marks PM Modi's first visit to China in seven years and his first since the Galwan Valley clash between the armed forces of both nations at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in June 2020.
Prior to his departure for this two-nation tour, PM Modi stated, "I will head to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin, at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. India is an active and constructive member of the SCO. During our presidency, we've presented fresh ideas and initiated collaborations in innovation, health, and cultural exchanges."
He emphasized that India "is dedicated to collaborating with SCO members to tackle shared challenges and enhance regional cooperation."

Meanwhile, during his stay in Japan, PM Modi engaged in several high-level discussions with the nation's leadership and participated in the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.
He met with the governors of Japan's 16 prefectures, emphasizing the potential for collaboration between Japanese prefectures and Indian states by leveraging new initiatives and fostering partnerships. He encouraged them to take part in India's growth narrative.
Earlier that day, PM Modi arrived in Sendai, located in Miyagi Prefecture, where he traveled on the iconic Shinkansen (bullet train) alongside Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba.
In Sendai, the leaders visited Tokyo Electron Miyagi Ltd (TEL Miyagi), a prominent Japanese firm in the semiconductor industry.
"I visited Prime Minister Ishiba and the factory of Tokyo Electron. I evaluated the training room and the Production Innovation Lab, and also discussed with the company’s executives," PM Modi shared in a post on X.
