Wellington, Dec 15 (NationPress) The 2024 Ironman 70.3 World Championship wrapped up on Sunday in the North Island city of Taupo, New Zealand.

This event marks the inaugural occasion it has been hosted in New Zealand. The competition spanned a total distance of 70.3 miles, comprising a 1.9-kilometre swim, a 90-kilometre bike ride, and a 21.1-kilometre run, drawing thousands of competitors from across the globe, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.

In the men's division, Jelle Geens from Belgium showcased remarkable all-around prowess, finishing the race in three hours, 32 minutes, and nine seconds to clinch the title.

With the fervent backing of his local fans, Hayden Wilde from New Zealand achieved second place with a time of 3:33:22. Leo Bergere from France secured third place, finishing in 3:35:08.

In the women's race, Taylor Knibb from the United States took home the gold medal with a time of 3:57:34. Kat Matthews from Britain followed in second place, clocking in at 3:58:49, while Ashleigh Gentle from Australia finished third with a time of 4:03:01.
