Is the Yunus Regime Fueling Lawlessness in Bangladesh?

Dhaka, Sep 15 (NationPress) The Awami League party of Bangladesh has once again criticized the government led by Mohammad Yunus for fostering an environment of extreme lawlessness in the nation, where even those dedicated to protecting the populace are not immune under the self-declared agenda of “restoring democracy and stability.

The party claimed that police officers, who are supposed to ensure the safety of citizens and uphold the law, are increasingly facing assaults, threats, and even fatalities.

“The magnitude of these assaults is astonishing. Officers find themselves ambushed, cornered, and humiliated, often paying the ultimate sacrifice in situations that not only highlight criminal boldness but also the systemic failure of authority and protection. Institutions that should uphold law and justice appear to be incapacitated, unwilling or unable to defend those who risk their lives every day,” stated the Awami League.

The Awami League further noted that since August 2024 under the Yunus administration, police officers throughout Bangladesh have been subjected to targeted aggression, harassment, and outright killings, with the interim government continuously failing to respond with the necessary urgency or seriousness.

“Officers, who risk everything to enforce the law, are left unprotected and vulnerable, as if the state that vowed to safeguard them has renounced its duty. Cases are seldom filed promptly, investigations stagnate, and arrests of offenders are sporadic, inadequate, or entirely missing. This leads to a scenario where assailants act with confidence, knowing that the justice system operates so sluggishly, or not at all, that their crimes are effectively condoned by silence,” the party asserted.

The Awami League pointed out that widows and children, many of whom have lost their sole providers, face challenges in their survival without any assistance, while promises of compensation, pensions, or government help are delayed, diminished, or entirely withheld. They added that mothers, wives, and siblings share the anguish of official indifference, noting that no representative from the state reached out to offer condolences, explanations, or accountability.

“The state’s silence sends a message as harsh as the attacks themselves: the lives of those committed to maintaining law and order are cheap, expendable, and forgotten, valued far less than political appearances or transient narratives of public unrest,” the party remarked.

In Bangladesh, where the very defenders of law are being murdered with impunity under the Yunus-led interim government, the Awami League questioned who is left to protect the citizens if those who uphold the law are forsaken, if their sacrifices go unnoticed, and their killers remain unpunished.
