Key Takeaways
Quetta, Nov 11 (NationPress) Recently, protests took place in the Khuzdar and Hub districts of Pakistan's Balochistan, as families and human rights activists rallied for the safe return of missing individuals and an end to enforced disappearances throughout the area, according to local media reports.
During the demonstrations in Khuzdar, attendees commemorated the third anniversary of the enforced disappearance of Salman Baloch. Protesters, including the families of the missing and local residents, displayed banners and photographs of their loved ones, demanding justice and the immediate recovery of all victims. The Balochistan Post reported on this.
The family of Salman Baloch expressed their anguish over having no information about his whereabouts or condition for the past three years. Salman’s sister stated, "Today marks three years since my brother’s disappearance. We organized this rally to demand justice, truth, and the return of our loved one. For three long years, we have been waiting in vain."
An online campaign emerged on social media where human rights advocates and the public showed solidarity with the family.
In another location, the family of missing youth Maroof Koh Baloch staged a protest at Hub Chowki, blocking the Karachi–Quetta highway at Hub Bhawani to demand his release. This sit-in caused significant traffic disruptions along the highway.
A heavy police presence was observed at the protest site, with authorities indicating that they were attempting to engage in dialogue with the demonstrators, who remained resolute in their commitment to continue their protests until Maroof Koh Baloch's whereabouts were disclosed.
On Monday, the Human Rights Department of the Baloch National Movement condemned the enforced disappearance of Amjid Baloch, a resident of Zarin Bugh Dasht in Kech district. The rights group alleged that Amjid was forcibly taken by Pakistani intelligence personnel at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
According to his family, Amjid, who was returning from the United Arab Emirates, was seized by individuals in plain clothes suspected to be affiliated with Pakistani intelligence agencies shortly after his arrival. Since that time, his whereabouts have been unknown, and his family has received no updates regarding his condition or detention, as stated by Paank.
