Islamabad, March 11 (NationPress) The deliberate assault on the Jaffar Express passenger train by militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) at Mashkaf, Dhadar, Bolan, has led to a tense standoff between security forces and the militants, who have reportedly seized more than 100 passengers as hostages.
While the BLA asserts that it has taken at least 100 Pakistani military officials and personnel captive after derailing the express train, Pakistani officials maintain that the train was transporting civilians and families, including women and children, who are now under the control of BLA militants after the train was halted in a tunnel.
"Terrorists have obstructed the train inside a tunnel to maintain control over the hostages. Security forces have arrived at the site, despite its remoteness. The terrorists are also in communication with their accomplices abroad," stated sources within the security forces.
Additional sources disclosed that Pakistani forces have made several attempts to execute a rescue operation but have had to withdraw following intense clashes with the militants.
"Pakistani helicopters and drones continue to patrol the area and have occasionally conducted airstrikes as well," remarked a local source.
Conversely, the BLA has cautioned Pakistani forces that it will commence executing the hostages if the airstrikes persist.
The BLA claims to have taken personnel from the Pakistani military, police, ISI, and ATF, who were en route to Punjab on leave, into custody. The BLA also claims to have already released women and children.
However, these claims have been dismissed by Pakistani forces, who assert that the BLA militants have targeted civilians and their families, who remain held as hostages.
Tuesday's incident marks one of the most significant attacks conducted by the BLA Majeed Brigade (Suicide Unit), with STOS, Fateh squad, and Zarb Unit actively coordinating and resisting any military intervention.
The situation remains extremely critical, according to sources.
Pakistani security forces have encountered significant resistance from separatist factions like the BLA in Balochistan, which has been executing targeted attacks and assassinations of security personnel from other provinces, particularly Punjab.
Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provinces have consistently been among the most unstable areas of the nation, with militant groups launching targeted assaults on security forces.
Pakistan asserts that these militant factions receive substantial support from across the border in Afghanistan, as the Taliban regime facilitates, finances, and shelters anti-Pakistan elements, encouraging them to instigate disorder within the country.
