Colombo, Sep 24 (NationPress) Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi of the Indian Navy engaged in comprehensive talks with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya in Colombo, concentrating on bolstering bilateral maritime cooperation and enhancing defense relations between the two countries.
Admiral Tripathi, who arrived in Colombo on Tuesday for a four-day itinerary, consulted with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister on matters such as maritime security, training, and capacity enhancement.
In a message on X, the Indian Navy noted, "The discussions covered a broad spectrum regarding the enduring partnership between India and Sri Lanka in the maritime sector, reaffirming the commitment to augmenting bilateral defense cooperation through improved operational engagements, capacity-building initiatives, and participation in multilateral forums like the International Fleet Review, MILAN, and the Admiral's Cup Regatta."
As per the statement, Prime Minister Amarasuriya "highlighted the strategic significance of the ocean for maritime nations and stressed the necessity of collective endeavors to safeguard this shared resource."
She further noted the potential for deeper collaboration in addressing transnational challenges such as anti-narcotics operations, illegal and unregulated fishing, marine pollution, and maritime terrorism.
The Sri Lankan Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of closer coordination in search and rescue missions, enhanced information sharing, and the expansion of training connections between the navies of India and Sri Lanka.
The Indian Navy remarked that the meeting illustrated the "shared vision" of both nations to "foster peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean Region through mutual trust and collaboration."
