Dhaka, Nov 13 (NationPress) The Awami League of Bangladesh has accused the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus of plotting to steer the nation toward an unpredictable future, cautioning that a new variant of 'mob terrorism' has surfaced as a systematic 'terror strategy'.
Criticizing the Yunus administration, the party asserted that since these 'illegitimate usurpers' took control, there has been a significant rise in incidents of murder, rape, theft, robbery, looting, and mugging throughout the nation.
The Awami League contended that the Yunus-led interim government has resorted to 'terrorism' as a tactic to maintain its grip on power, leaving citizens with no assurance of even basic safety for their lives or belongings.
“When the state itself becomes the supporter of terrorism and employs terror against its own populace, the rule of law and public order that define a civilized and modern society can no longer persist. This is why, under the pretext of law and order, even the Chattogram Police Commissioner can casually refer to 'brush fires' (summary shootings). For a regime lacking public mandate, terror and fear become the only means of survival—and this reality is manifesting throughout society and the state,” stated a release from the Awami League.
“Although human rights organizations have already expressed serious concern regarding the rise of terrorism in the nation, the government remains entirely unfazed. As early as March, a national publication reported a 6.16 percent increase in terrorist activities. Following this trend, in October, human rights advocates again raised alarms over the proliferation of state-sponsored and other terrorist acts,” the statement continued.
According to the Awami League, extrajudicial killings, deaths in custody, and the discovery of unidentified bodies continue to escalate in Bangladesh. The party claimed that its leaders and activists are being systematically targeted—killed inside prisons, while outside, 'mob terrorism' is being unleashed through assaults, killings, and looting.
The Awami League further condemned the Yunus-led interim government for stripping citizens of their democratic rights and executing indiscriminate mass arrests of its leaders and activists across Bangladesh.
“By unlawfully and unjustly prohibiting the political activities of the Awami League, they have sought to silence the democratic voice of the populace. Simultaneously, state machinery is being wielded in a terrorist manner, akin to a steamroller, to crush opposition. They are indiscriminately abusing power to impose brutal repression,” asserted the Awami League.
“Without any legitimate causes—or through false and harassing allegations—leaders and activists are being arrested in mass and held unjustly for extended periods. Rather than upholding the rule of law, the judiciary is being utilized to fulfill their own ambitions. To realize their unlawful objectives, they are persistently fabricating plots to discredit the Awami League with false claims,” it concluded.
