Thimphu, Feb 13 (NationPress) Bhutan's efforts to attract investors through recent Investment Roadshows conducted in Delhi, Mumbai, and the IT hub Bengaluru have sparked significant interest among the Indian business sector, as reported by local media in Thimphu on Thursday.
The Department of Industry (DoI) of Bhutan indicated that the event effectively highlighted the country's investment opportunities across four critical sectors: tourism and wellness, agro-based production, forest-based industries, and IT and IT-enabled services (ITES).
This series of roadshows was organized in partnership with the Bhutanese Embassy in India and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
A DoI official remarked, 'Numerous Indian investors, especially those in Mumbai and Bangalore, had little awareness of Bhutan's investment capabilities. The event provided valuable insights into Bhutan's policies, business climate, and opportunities.'
India and Bhutan share a unique bond of friendship and collaboration, founded on mutual respect and trust. India remains the largest source of investment in the landlocked nation. Regular high-level interactions between the two nations exemplify this special partnership.
In March 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Bhutan, during which he was honored with the Order of the Druk Gyalpo, Bhutan’s highest civilian accolade, by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. This award acknowledged PM Modi’s remarkable contributions to bolstering India-Bhutan relations, marking him as the first foreign national to receive this prestigious honor.
In December 2024, King Jigme Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck visited New Delhi, where they also met with Prime Minister Modi.
