Brasilia, July 8 (NationPress) Brazil has awarded its highest distinction, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his ongoing State Visit to the nation on Tuesday.
This prestigious accolade marks the 26th international recognition for PM Modi and the third received during his current tour of five nations, which commenced on July 2.
On Friday, PM Modi made history by becoming the first foreign leader to receive 'The Order of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago', the top civilian honour of the Caribbean country, during his brief visit to Port of Spain.
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamala Persad Bissessar, praised PM Modi for this honour, which acknowledges his global leadership, his strong connections with the Indian diaspora, and his humanitarian contributions during the COVID-19 crisis.
Just last Wednesday, PM Modi was awarded the 'Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana' by Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama in Accra, recognizing his 'distinguished statesmanship and impactful global leadership' before he headed to Trinidad.
Experts note that these awards highlight PM Modi's exceptional influence—no other Indian Prime Minister has achieved such a significant global presence. He is viewed as a committed global statesman who champions regional peace, development, and spiritual diplomacy.
A former diplomat remarked, 'For the first time, India's foreign policy is unapologetically India First—clear, confident, and consistent. The world is not only observing but also recognizing and respecting this new India.'
In June, President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus awarded PM Modi with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
This year, PM Modi has also been recognized with the highest civilian awards from Mauritius and Sri Lanka. In April, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake honored him with the 'Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushana', acknowledging his efforts to enhance bilateral relations.

After a ceremonial welcome featuring 114 horses escorting PM Modi's vehicle, military honours, and introductions of delegates, both leaders engaged in a restricted-format meeting, which will be followed by delegation-level discussions.
