Why is Trinidad & Tobago PM Honoring PM Modi?

Port of Spain, July 4 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be honored with the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the highest civilian accolade awarded by this Caribbean nation. This was announced by the nation's Prime Minister, Kamala Persad Bissessar, who expressed profound admiration for the Indian leader.

This prestigious recognition acknowledges Modi's exemplary global leadership, strong connections with the Indian diaspora, and his humanitarian contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During her speech, Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Kamala Persad Bissessar praised PM Modi, describing his visit as a significant moment of pride and shared history.

"We are honored to host someone who holds a special place in our hearts," she stated, adding, "We welcome a leader whose presence is not merely a formality but a deep honor for us. I feel immensely privileged to greet one of the world’s most esteemed and visionary leaders, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India," she remarked.

She continued, "Prime Minister, you are a transformative force who has enhanced the governance of India and elevated your nation to a formidable global presence."

Highlighting PM Modi’s visionary initiatives, she stated, "Through your forward-thinking policies, you have revitalized the Indian economy, empowered over a billion citizens, and instilled pride in the hearts of Indians worldwide."

Reflecting on PM Modi’s previous visit in 2002, she noted:

"During your initial visit in 2002, you were a cultural ambassador. Today, you return as the leader of over 1.4 billion people—an esteemed figure whose influence knows no borders. We honor you, Sir."

The Trinidadian Prime Minister praised PM Modi’s dedication to the Indian diaspora and his efforts to preserve shared heritage and culture. She also emphasized India's vital support to the Caribbean during the pandemic through its global vaccine initiative.

"Under your leadership, India has reached out to the world more than ever, particularly through your compassion and generosity demonstrated during the Vaccine Initiative four years ago. You ensured that vaccines and supplies were delivered to even the smallest nations, including Trinidad and Tobago. Your benevolence brought hope and calm amidst fear. This transcended diplomacy; it was a gesture of kinship, shared humanity, and love."

She concluded, "This is among the many reasons we are honored to present you with The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, our nation's highest accolade."

This honor from Trinidad and Tobago adds to a list of accolades received by PM Modi during his ongoing tour. Previously, Barbados, Guyana, and Dominica also recognized him with their highest national honors.

Guyana and Dominica acknowledged PM Modi for his exceptional leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic, his significant contributions to the global community, and for strengthening bilateral relations with the two Caribbean nations.
