CEO of America’s Largest Health Insurance Firm Killed in Mid-Town New York Shooting

New York, Dec 4 (NationPress) The CEO of America’s largest health insurance firm was fatally shot early Wednesday in a shocking attack outside a mid-town hotel in New York.

Brian Thompson, who leads UnitedHealthcare (UHC), was murdered in what officials described as a “targeted attack” while the masked perpetrator made their escape on a bicycle.

This incident occurred as the city was bustling with tourists in anticipation of the holiday season, with the lighting of the iconic Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Centre set to take place just hours later, near the location of the shooting.

To provide reassurance to visitors, Mayor Eric Adams commented: "We want to assure New Yorkers that this does not appear to be a random act of violence."

Concerns regarding crime have been significant, with 62 percent of Americans expressing worries in a recent survey – a factor influencing the presidential election.

Reports indicate that the assailant was seen pacing outside the Hilton hotel and shot Thompson from approximately three meters away, as the CEO was en route to the hotel for his company's investors' conference.

In 2021, Thompson, aged 50, assumed leadership of UHC, which reported a revenue of $281 billion last year and provides private health insurance alongside government programs for seniors and low-income individuals.
