Chancellor Scholz Requests Confidence Vote in Bundestag

Berlin, Dec 11 (NationPress) Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Wednesday made a formal appeal for a vote of confidence in the Bundestag, which is the lower chamber of Germany's parliament.
As per a statement from the federal government, the vote is anticipated to occur on December 16.
Following the exit of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) from Germany's ruling coalition during last month's governmental turmoil, the nation is edging closer to a snap election.
Given that the remaining members of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and Greens no longer hold a majority in the Bundestag, Scholz is projected to lose the confidence vote next week, according to reports from Xinhua news agency.
If Scholz does not succeed in the vote, the German president has the authority to dissolve the parliament within 21 days, and a snap election must occur within 60 days of the dissolution.
Key German political factions have reached a consensus that the snap election should be scheduled for February 23, 2025.
