Key Takeaways
Moscow, April 20 (NationPress) In a troubling incident, Russian authorities have initiated a criminal investigation after a circus tiger unexpectedly leaped into the audience during a performance, as reported by local media on Monday.
The event occurred on Saturday in Rostov-on-Don, where a tiger jumped into the spectator area. Eyewitness videos depicted a scene with three tigers and two trainers performing when the barrier separating the audience from the animals gave way, allowing one tiger to vault into the seating.
Footage from the scene showed the tiger weaving through the seats as audience members hurried to escape. A subsequent video revealed a trainer trying to guide the animal towards the exit while families with children looked on in concern, according to reports from 'The Moscow Times'.
An announcer was heard instructing the audience over the loudspeakers: "Dear visitors, please remain calm to avoid worsening the situation." Thankfully, no injuries were reported, as the trainers successfully led the tiger into a secure transportation container.
Sergei Belyakov, General Director of the Russian State Circus, informed the leading news agency Tass that a specialized commission will evaluate the incident at the Rostov-on-Don circus, where the tiger entered the audience during the show.
Belyakov noted that during performances involving wild animals, trained assistants equipped with safety gear are always present to provide immediate assistance and to avert potential emergencies. Established procedures are in place for informing spectators about proper conduct during emergencies.
Roman Korobko, Chairman of the Association of Travelling Circuses of Russia, remarked that this situation might stem from human error, leading to the collapse of the protective barrier.
The investigation will ultimately determine the incidents' conclusions, including the trainers' adherence to safety protocols and their actions during the event.
