Minister Sanchez extended his deepest condolences to the victims' families, affirming that all necessary care protocols have been activated to assist those affected.
Some injured soldiers have been airlifted to the capital, Bogota, for further medical attention. Sanchez reiterated his sympathies to the families impacted by this tragedy.
President Gustavo Petro expressed his dismay, stating that the crash “should never have happened.” He attributed the incident to the lack of modernization within the armed forces, highlighting the issue as a result of “bureaucratic challenges.”
President Petro also expressed gratitude to the individuals who rushed to the crash site to provide assistance to those onboard.
According to flight records, the aircraft involved was a C-130H Hercules, an older model from the C-130 series that has been in service since March 1965. This particular plane was donated to the Colombian Air Force by the US Air Force in September 2020.
