New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) A parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, headed by House of Representatives President Annita Demetriou, met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday. In their discussions, President Murmu expressed optimism regarding the strengthening of relations between India and Cyprus across all sectors of collaboration.
During this significant meeting, President Murmu noted that Constitution Day serves as an excellent opportunity to exchange democratic and parliamentary experiences with a trusted ally like Cyprus. She expressed her belief that the ties between the two nations would continue to flourish across various domains of cooperation,” the President's Secretariat shared via X.
On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar engaged in discussions with the Cyprus parliamentary delegation, affirming that Cyprus' forthcoming European Union Presidency would further enhance relationships between India and the EU.
“I was pleased to converse with the parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, led by President Annita Demetriou. We had extensive discussions about our bilateral cooperation, founded on shared democratic principles, respect for territorial integrity, and a strong stance against terrorism and radicalization. I am confident that Cyprus' upcoming EU Presidency will bolster India-EU relations,” EAM Jaishankar posted on X.
The delegation, led by Demetriou, also had a meeting with Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Tuesday. They conversed about the bilateral relationship and the necessity of ongoing parliamentary exchanges to further strengthen these ties.
In a statement on X, the Vice President's Office noted, “The Hon'ble Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, met with a parliamentary delegation from Cyprus led by H.E. Ms. Annita Demetriou today at Parliament House, New Delhi.”
“The discussions underscored the long-standing bilateral relationship between India and Cyprus and the importance of sustained parliamentary exchanges to deepen ties between the two nations,” it added.
On October 30, EAM S Jaishankar and his Cyprus counterpart Constantinos Kombos evaluated the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029 during their meeting in New Delhi. EAM Jaishankar remarked that they discussed the global geopolitical landscape, regional developments, and collaboration in multilateral forums.
“I was delighted to welcome FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus in New Delhi today. We reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029, which was agreed upon by leaders during PM Narendra Modi's visit to Cyprus in June 2025. Our discussions also encompassed the global geopolitical context, developments in our regions, and our cooperation in multilateral platforms. As Cyprus takes on the EU Presidency in 2026, we are confident that India-EU ties will be further enhanced,” EAM Jaishankar posted on X.
The Action Plan serves as a roadmap for implementing the Joint Declaration adopted during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Cyprus earlier this year, establishing short, medium, and long-term objectives in key areas of cooperation, such as defense, trade, and technology sectors.
