How is PM Modi Deepening Partnerships Across Continents with His Upcoming Five-Nation Tour?

New Delhi, June 27 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a five-nation journey commencing on July 2, visiting Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday.

During the initial phase of his tour, PM Modi will travel to Ghana from July 2-3, marking his inaugural bilateral visit to the country. This visit, the first of its kind from India to Ghana in three decades, will involve discussions with the President of Ghana regarding the robust bilateral partnership and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation in sectors such as economic, energy, defense, and development.

The MEA noted, "This visit will reaffirm the commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral ties and bolster India's engagement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union."

Next, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, PM Modi will visit the Caribbean from July 3-4. This marks his first visit as Prime Minister and the first at the Prime Ministerial level since 1999. He will engage in talks with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Bissessar to further strengthen Indo-Trinidadian relations, including an address at the Joint Session of the Parliament of T&T. The MEA stated that this visit aims to invigorate the long-standing historical ties between the two nations.

Last November, during the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Georgetown, PM Modi emphasized India's support for the Global South, acknowledging the challenges faced by these nations and reaffirming India’s role as a dependable partner to the Caribbean.

On the sidelines of the Summit, PM Modi met with then-Prime Minister Keith Rowley to congratulate him on adopting India's UPI Platform, promising further collaboration in digital transformation.

The history of people-to-people connections between the two nations dates back to 1845, when the ship 'Fatel Razack' brought 225 Indian indentured workers to Trinidad.

In the third segment of his tour, PM Modi will visit Argentina from July 4-5 at the invitation of President Javier Milei. The agenda includes bilateral discussions on enhancing cooperation across key sectors like defense, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade and investment, and people-to-people ties. This visit aims to deepen the multifaceted Strategic Partnership between the two nations, which was elevated during a visit by the then-Argentinian President in February 2019.

PM Modi previously met Milei during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024, where they discussed broadening the Strategic Partnership and enhancing trade relations.

In the fourth phase of his tour, at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, PM Modi will travel to Brazil from July 5-8 for the 17th BRICS Summit 2025, followed by a State Visit. The Summit will be held at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro from July 6-7.

This marks PM Modi's fourth visit to Brazil. At the Summit, discussions will focus on vital global issues such as global governance reform, peace and security, multilateralism enhancement, responsible AI use, climate action, and economic matters.

PM Modi is expected to hold several bilateral meetings during the Summit, and for the State Visit, he will travel to Brasilia to discuss expanding the Strategic Partnership in areas including trade, defense, energy, space, technology, agriculture, and health.

In the last Summit under Russia's chairmanship in Kazan in October 2024, PM Modi highlighted the pressing challenges facing the world and the expectations placed upon BRICS.

The final leg of his tour will take PM Modi to Namibia on July 9 at the invitation of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. This will mark PM Modi's first visit to Namibia, and only the third by an Indian Prime Minister. He will engage in talks with President Nandi-Ndaitwah and pay tribute to the late Dr. Sam Nujoma, the Founding Father of Namibia, and is expected to speak at the Parliament.

This visit underscores India's long-standing and multifaceted ties with Namibia. PM Modi has been emphasizing India’s role as a voice for the Global South, showcasing its emergence as a 'Vishwa Bandhu' in a divided world.

Over the past 11 years, India has firmly established itself as a reliable ally of Africa, with PM Modi reiterating New Delhi's commitment to the continent.
