United Nations, June 23 (NationPress) Pakistan has firmly aligned itself with China and Russia in opposition to the United States at the Security Council, despite the recent high-profile lunch between Pakistan's military chief Asim Munir and US President Donald Trump, which sparked speculation regarding improved relations between Islamabad and Washington.
During an emergency meeting on Iran, Pakistan's Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad condemned the US strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, occurring after a series of provocative actions by Israel.
Ahmad stated that Pakistan, in concert with its steadfast ally China and partner Russia, is drafting a resolution for the Council's consideration.
This meeting was convened at Iran's request following the US bombing of three of its nuclear sites.
Recognizing the military's true authority in Pakistan, Trump entertained Munir at the White House last Wednesday, hinting at potential collaboration against Iran.
Ahmad emphasized that the Council must "clearly reject and condemn the attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran since June 13, 2025, as a violation of international law and the UN Charter."
While Israel initiated assaults on Iran's nuclear sites on June 13, the US joined in on Saturday.
According to Ahmad, the Council should denounce assaults on IAEA-safeguarded nuclear facilities as violations of Security Council and IAEA resolutions, as well as of international humanitarian law.
The recent attacks targeted nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, executed by the US.
"To achieve these goals, Pakistan is collaborating with China and Russia on a draft resolution," Ahmad noted.
He expressed strong condemnation of Israel's actions and affirmed Iran's right to self-defense.
Pakistan has "vehemently condemned Israeli aggression and expressed unwavering support for Iran's legitimate right to self-defense, in accordance with the UN Charter," he stated.
