Nordwind Airlines, a budget airline from Russia, is set to commence direct flights connecting the two cities on July 27, according to Yonhap news agency, which cited Tass and Russia's transport ministry.
This will be the inaugural direct air service between the capitals of North Korea and Russia, the news agency highlighted.
The establishment of this air route comes after Russian aviation authorities recently approved Nordwind's request to operate direct flights between Pyongyang and Moscow twice weekly.
Tass noted that the flight duration will be approximately eight hours.
At present, direct flights between North Korea and Russia are limited to the route from Pyongyang to Vladivostok.
In the wake of the signing of a mutual defense treaty in June of the previous year, the two nations have intensified their collaboration in numerous sectors, including transportation.
Last month, both countries resumed direct rail services connecting Pyongyang with Moscow and Khabarovsk, which had been suspended due to COVID-19. Additionally, in April, they commenced the construction of a road bridge spanning the Tumen River.
During a recent visit to North Korea's eastern coastal city of Wonsan, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed intentions to restore maritime transport routes between the two nations.
