Washington, Sep 16 (NationPress) - The Director of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Kash Patel, announced that authorities have located DNA evidence connecting the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson, to the crime scene from last week.
"We have identified DNA on the screwdriver discovered on the rooftop, as well as on the towel that was used to wrap the firearm," Patel explained during an interview with Fox News on Monday.
The rifle in question is currently undergoing analysis at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives laboratories in Maryland, Patel added.
Furthermore, the FBI director revealed that the suspect's family informed investigators that Robinson has leaned towards a 'left-wing' ideology, particularly intensifying over the past few years.
Kirk, a prominent right-wing activist and influencer, tragically lost his life due to a gunshot wound to the neck while he was engaged in a debate in front of an audience at Utah Valley University, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
Approximately 33 hours following the shooting, the 22-year-old suspect was arrested in Washington County, Utah, after family members recognized him from images released by investigators.
A relative of Robinson reached out to a family friend who subsequently contacted the Washington County Sheriff's Office, providing information that Robinson had confessed to them, as stated by Utah Governor Spencer Cox on Friday.
During a Sunday interview on NBC, Governor Cox mentioned that discussions with friends and family of Robinson suggested he harbored a 'leftist ideology', which was significantly different from the beliefs held by his conservative family.
Although he is a registered voter, state voting records indicate that Robinson is not affiliated with any political party and he did not participate in the November presidential election—the first election since he turned 18. His parents, however, are both registered as Republicans.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover a motive behind this tragic event.
