Dehradun, Sep 16 (NationPress) - Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated on Tuesday that he remains in continuous communication with the local authorities following a devastating cloudburst incident in Karligaad, Dehradun. This unfortunate event resulted in significant damage to the area and left two individuals unaccounted for.
The incident, which occurred late Monday night in Sahastradhara—a popular tourist spot—caused substantial debris to accumulate, impacting two to three major hotels and numerous shops in the central market.
A powerful current swept away several shops, and while two individuals are currently missing, there has been no confirmation of widespread loss of life or property thus far. Search and rescue efforts are actively being conducted to locate the missing persons.
CM Dhami expressed his concern on X, stating, "I have received sad news regarding the damage to several shops due to heavy rainfall last night in Sahastradhara, Dehradun. The administration, SDRF, and police are on-site, fully engaged in relief and rescue operations."
He added, "I am in constant touch with the local administration and am personally overseeing the situation. My prayers are with everyone affected."
All relevant departments have been activated, with teams from SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department deployed. Essential equipment, including JCB machines, is being utilized for relief operations.
Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has caused the Chandrabhaga River in Rishikesh to overflow, leading to road flooding in adjacent areas. Three individuals—Khushpal Singh, Manoj Rawat, and Bobby Panwar—were trapped in the river but were promptly rescued by SDRF personnel.
Heavy rains have also resulted in traffic issues across various regions. Near Khara Srot in Muni Ki Reti, debris has obstructed the road, causing numerous vehicles to become stranded, while a large tree fell near the PWD intersection, further hindering movement.
In the Kaladhungi police station area of Haldwani, tragedy struck when a Bolero vehicle was swept away while trying to cross a rain-fed drain late Monday night, around 11:30 p.m.
Out of the three passengers, one young man is currently missing, while two others were rescued safely by local citizens. Police, along with NDRF and SDRF teams, rushed to the scene to begin searching for the missing individual.
Eyewitnesses reported that the strong current carried the Bolero downstream, and it was only due to the swift actions of locals that two of the passengers were saved.
