Moscow, Aug 20 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is set to co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) in Moscow this Wednesday. This session is designed to further enhance bilateral relations and is a significant part of his ongoing three-day official visit to Russia from August 19 to 21.
During his visit, the External Affairs Minister will also speak at the India-Russia Business Forum, where both nations will discuss opportunities to strengthen trade and investment relations.
Jaishankar’s trip is taking place at the request of Denis Manturov, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the strategic importance of this visit. “Dr. S. Jaishankar will be conducting an official visit to Russia from 19-21 August 2025 to co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission scheduled for 20 August 2025,” the MEA stated.
“The purpose of this visit is to further fortify the enduring and reliable India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” the statement continued.
While in Moscow, Jaishankar will also engage in bilateral discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, continuing the pattern of regular high-level talks between the two nations.
Previously, the two leaders met during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meeting on July 15, along with discussions at the recent BRICS Summit.
Earlier this year, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Moscow for consultations with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, highlighting the strong diplomatic ties between New Delhi and Moscow.
This visit comes ahead of a potential high-profile interaction, with Russian President Vladimir Putin expected to visit India following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
