Srinagar, Aug 20 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, announced on Wednesday that numerous prestigious educational institutions have been established in the union territory within the past decade.
The L-G inaugurated the administrative block of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) in Ganderbal district.
During his speech at the inauguration, the L-G emphasized that the human capital being developed in these universities will undoubtedly contribute to the nation's progress.
“Over the last 8-10 years, we have successfully set up several premier educational institutions under the guidance of PM Modi. From IIT to NIFT, Central University, and AIIMS, Jammu and Kashmir has greatly gained from these initiatives,” he stated.
The L-G reminisced about an anecdote related to Rabindranath Tagore at Shantiniketan.
“A spectator once noticed that while Tagore was instructing, some students had climbed a fruit tree and were picking fruits. When questioned about the education being imparted to students in such a situation, Tagore replied: I have no problem with those who pick fruits. My concern lies with those who climb but fail to gather any,” he remarked.
“Such a response could only come from Tagore,” the L-G added. He noted that the reforms being introduced in the curriculum will benefit both the students and the nation at large.
He projected a positive future for the CUK and expressed his aspiration for it to rank among the top universities by 2047.
“I urge the committee members of the Central University to elevate the institution to a global standing. Students should engage in learning beyond the syllabus, and I am confident that CUK students will focus on this and contribute to national development,” he said.
The L-G also reflected on the rich educational legacy of the country, where individuals from various regions sought knowledge and learning.
