Kolkata, Aug 20 (NationPress) Kunal Ghosh, the state general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against the father of the victim in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case. Ghosh stated that the father recently accused him of negotiating with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the R.G. Kar case on behalf of the West Bengal government, allegedly involving financial transactions.
The victim's father went further, claiming that Ghosh visited the CBI office at the CGO Complex in Kolkata's Salt Lake area for this purpose.
Just a week prior, Ghosh issued a legal notice to the victim's father, demanding an apology for these allegations or facing legal ramifications.
After the father failed to apologize, the Trinamool Congress leader proceeded to file a defamation suit against him in Bankshall Court.
"I have compassion for the victim's family, but that does not justify spreading falsehoods in my name. I have lodged a defamation case, and now they must substantiate their claims in court," Ghosh remarked.
On August 11, Ghosh publicly criticized the victim's father for suggesting that he had settled the CBI case regarding the R.G. Kar incident for monetary gain on behalf of the state government.
In a post on social media, Ghosh accused the victim's father of engaging in a theatrical display filled with deceit.
"The father alleged that the CBI accepted money and that Kunal Ghosh intervened at the CGO Complex. He is stretching the limits of falsehood. I empathize with any father grieving the loss of a daughter, but it raises questions about the credibility of those making such claims. What basis did you have for these unfounded allegations against me?" Ghosh questioned.
This strong response from the Trinamool leader followed the father's accusations regarding Ghosh's involvement in settling the CBI case.
In conversations with the media, the victim's father asserted, "CBI officials informed me they would dismiss this case. I insisted they communicate that to the court. We suspect that the CBI has accepted money from the state government, and that Kunal Ghosh intervened at the CGO Complex in Kolkata to facilitate this settlement."
In response to the defamation lawsuit, the victim's father vowed to continue their fight for justice. "We will relentlessly pursue justice for our daughter. The Trinamool Congress government has consistently attempted to obstruct our pursuit of justice. Now, the Trinamool spokesperson has opted for legal action against a bereaved father. Yet, we will not back down. No force can deter us. Our battle against Kunal Ghosh will be waged through legal channels," he stated.
