CBI Conducts Video Testimonies of Witnesses in RG Kar Financial Fraud Case

Kolkata, Jan 2 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is actively investigating the substantial financial irregularities at the state-operated R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, having recorded video testimonies from witnesses, notably colleagues of Sandip Ghosh, the institution's former and contentious principal.
Sources indicate that the recorded testimonies of the medicine-procurement committee members from R. G. Kar are essential for fortifying the case against Ghosh.
The committee witnesses disclosed to investigators how Ghosh compelled them to endorse procurement-related documentation while disregarding their objections concerning numerous acquisitions.
Furthermore, the witnesses' accounts align with various documents obtained from the homes of Ghosh and his two trusted associates, Biplab Sinha and Suman Hazra.
The officials have pinpointed Ghosh, Suman Hazra, and Biplab Sinha as the primary beneficiaries of the alleged scam. All three are currently in judicial custody, although Ghosh has recently been granted default bail by a special court in Kolkata concerning the brutal rape and murder of a doctor at R.G. Kar in August 2023.
Both Ghosh and the former SHO of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal, received default bail after the CBI failed to file a supplementary charge sheet within the 90-day period following their arrest in the rape and murder case. Mondal has subsequently been released on bail.
The primary allegations against Ghosh in the financial misconduct include manipulating the tendering process, engaging private outsourced firms for infrastructure work at R.G. Kar while circumventing the state Public Works Department, smuggling bio-medical waste from the hospital, and selling organs from unidentified bodies intended for autopsy.
The CBI submitted its initial charge sheet in the case on November 29, 2023.
