Bail Granted to Sandip Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal in R.G. Kar Medical College Case

Kolkata, Dec 13 (NationPress) In a surprising turn of events, a special court in Kolkata has granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the controversial R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the former SHO of Tala Police Station, in relation to the shocking rape and murder of a junior doctor that took place within the hospital's premises in August of this year.
The bail was awarded to both individuals because the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) did not provide a supplementary charge sheet in support of the allegations against Ghosh and Mondal, which included charges of misleading the investigation and tampering with evidence during the initial inquiry conducted by the Kolkata Police.
So far, the CBI has submitted only one charge sheet in this case, identifying civic volunteer Sanjay Roy as the “sole prime accused” in the acts of rape and murder.
Nonetheless, despite being granted bail in this case, Sandip Ghosh remains incarcerated due to an ongoing case against him regarding financial misconduct at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital.
In the financial irregularities charge sheet, Ghosh is listed as one of the major accused. In contrast, since there are no other charges against Mondal apart from evidence tampering, he is likely to be released without further complications.
The court imposed conditions on Mondal's bail, requiring him to report to the police station whenever summoned.
On Friday, the attorneys representing Ghosh and Mondal argued that 90 days had elapsed since their clients’ arrests without the CBI filing any charge sheet against them, warranting their release.
The CBI informed the court that its investigation is ongoing, which is why no supplementary charge sheet had been submitted. Following this, the special court granted bail to both Ghosh and Mondal in the rape and murder case.
Feeling deeply disheartened by the court's ruling, the father of the victim junior doctor expressed that they have consistently believed the CBI has not been pursuing the investigation properly. He mentioned that he is considering legal options to appeal to a higher court regarding this matter.
