Washington, Feb 23 (NationPress) - Employees of the US federal government were notified via email on Saturday evening to compile a report of their work achievements from the past week by the deadline of Monday night, or they could face termination, according to media sources.

The emails were dispatched shortly after Elon Musk, who acts as the chief for cost reduction in President Donald Trump's administration, shared a brief message regarding this ultimatum on the social media platform X, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

This notification was issued shortly after Musk, the billionaire head of the Department of Government Efficiency, stated on social media that a lack of response to the email would be interpreted as a resignation.

"All federal employees will soon receive an email requesting a summary of their accomplishments from last week," Musk shared on X.

"Neglecting to respond will be seen as a resignation."

Musk's announcement came just hours after President Donald Trump posted on his own social network, Truth Social, advocating for DOGE to adopt a more aggressive stance in its efforts to downsize and reform the 2.3 million-strong federal workforce.

"In alignment with President @realDonaldTrump's directives, all federal employees will receive an email shortly asking for a summary of their accomplishments from the previous week," Musk reiterated in his post.

"Failure to respond will be interpreted as a resignation."

Federal employees, which include judges, court personnel, and officials from federal prisons, were instructed in a three-line email: "Please reply to this email with around 5 bullet points of what you achieved last week and cc your manager," as reported by the Associated Press.

The deadline for replies was stated as 11:59 p.m. on Monday, although the email did not contain Musk's earlier warning regarding non-responses, the news agency noted.

Thousands of federal employees have already been removed from the workforce, either through termination or by accepting buyouts, as the Trump administration endeavors to optimize government operations.

Trump has frequently referred to Musk as the effective leader of DOGE, which does not hold cabinet-level status, yet the White House clarified in a court document this month that Musk lacks authority over DOGE and is not an employee of the program.
