Five Men of Indian Descent Charged with Murder in New Jersey

New York, Jan 5 (NationPress) Five men of Indian origin have been apprehended and charged with the murder of an Indian individual, whose bullet-ridden body was located in a forest in New Jersey, as reported by officials.

The last of the five, Sandeep Kumar, was taken into custody on Friday, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and New Jersey Police Colonel Patrick Callahan on Saturday.

The body of Kuldeep Kumar was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the Greenwood Wildlife Management Area, a nature preserve in New Jersey, on December 14.

Despite Kumar's family in New York reporting him missing on October 26, it took nearly two months before his body was discovered and the prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit was notified.

The alleged murder took place around October 22, resulting in the body being in a state of “advanced decomposition” and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) assisted in identifying Kumar, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Investigations conducted by various law enforcement agencies focused on the five accused individuals.

Four of the suspects, Sourav Kumar, 23, Guarav Singh, 27, Nirmal Singh, 30, and Gurdeep Singh, 22, are from Greenwood in Indiana, while Sandeep Kumar, 34, hails from Ozone Park in New York, as per the prosecutor’s office.

While the prosecutor confirmed that the victim was of Indian descent, there was no information provided regarding the citizenship of those arrested or the motive behind the alleged murder.

The accused individuals from Indiana were apprehended there by the FBI, the prosecutor’s detective, and Indiana police “without incident” on December 20, according to Billhimer’s office.

They are currently detained in an Indiana jail, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

Under US law, when a person wanted for a crime is arrested in another state, prosecutors must undergo an extradition process in court, during which the arrested individual can contest the extradition.
