Dhaka, Dec 4 (NationPress) Khaleda Zia, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and current Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is scheduled to be transported to London on Friday for specialized medical care, as confirmed by her personal doctor and BNP Standing Committee member, AZM Zahid Hossain, on Thursday.
During a press conference held outside Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, Zahid revealed that a medical board, consisting of both local and international specialists, unanimously approved the decision.
“A Qatar Royal air ambulance will be used to take her to London. We have identified a hospital there for her treatment,” UNB quoted Zahid. “Several specialist doctors, including two overseas physicians, will accompany her to the UK,” he added.
Regarding her current health, Zahid noted that all recommended protocols from the medical board are being adhered to. He emphasized, “They have suggested that transferring her to London at this point is the most suitable course of action. Our hope is for her recovery and eventual return.”
On Tuesday, Zahid indicated that Khaleda Zia had been showing positive responses to the treatment administered by a team of specialists from both local and foreign backgrounds, as reported by local media.
“We firmly believe she will recover this time and return to us. She is receiving appropriate treatment,” he stated.
Previously, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described Khaleda Zia's health status as “very critical” and urged the nation to pray for her recovery.
The 80-year-old former Prime Minister has been grappling with multiple chronic health issues, including cardiac problems, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, and kidney complications.
She is currently under strict observation in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital, with both local and international specialist doctors supervising her care.
Reports indicate that Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on the night of November 23, upon the medical board's recommendation, following a diagnosis of infections impacting her heart and lungs.
As her health deteriorated, she was transferred to the CCU on November 27.
