Mumbai, Dec 5 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday that Maharashtra is poised to enhance its power distribution framework through a ‘Digital Twin’ model aimed at solar and various other renewable energy sources.
He mentioned that the distribution company MahaVitaran is set to embark on an AI-driven digitization project in partnership with prominent global organizations.
“This initiative signifies the commencement of eco-friendly and sustainable progress via AI technology within the state’s energy sector,” he stated.
Fadnavis added that with the collaboration of RF and GEAPP, this cutting-edge AI-powered global platform will establish a standard for power utilities throughout India.
The Chief Minister emphasized that AI-based decision-support tools will greatly improve customer service and fortify the financial standing of MahaVitaran.
“The solutions being crafted will provide enduring, sustainable, and effective assistance to the power distribution industry. This represents the inaugural effort to create a Digital Twin for electricity distribution,” he explained.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that this groundbreaking AI project is anticipated to facilitate significant advancements in the deployment of sustainable and eco-friendly green energy, particularly in rural regions.
According to him, farmers and electricity users in rural Maharashtra will benefit from more dependable and accessible power through this technology.
“With international-level AI systems and direct cooperation in the energy sector, Maharashtra will implement sophisticated digital solutions that will enhance the precision of power flow, field operations, and energy management,” he remarked.
The Energy Department stated in a release that this initiative will yield substantial impacts across the sector, highlighting that digital transformation enables quicker project-level decision-making, boosts grid efficiency, and maximizes solar energy usage.
“With increased utilization of green energy, pollution levels will see a notable decline. A mere 1 percent reduction in power losses could result in savings of Rs 1,000-1,500 crore annually, thereby significantly curtailing financial losses,” the department noted.
They added that due to international partnerships, this initiative could serve as a pivotal milestone in stabilizing power supply and enhancing service quality in rapidly developing nations like India.
“Maharashtra now possesses a vital opportunity to advance India’s vision of a sustainable, eco-friendly, and self-sufficient energy framework,” the department concluded.
Through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digitization, MahaVitaran is preparing to modernize the state's energy infrastructure, heralding a new era.
