In remarks following his primary win, Shah called the result a grassroots mandate. 'I have always prided myself on being a hardworking, grassroots candidate. Our victory in this primary was a grassroots victory where Arizona voters made their voices heard,' he said. He pledged to campaign beyond Democratic lines, seeking support from Independents frustrated with the political system and Republicans disappointed with the state of the country.

Shah also trained his fire on Washington's political class. 'The status quo in Washington, DC is not working for Arizonans. From rising costs to a reckless war in Iran to the largest cuts to our nation's healthcare system in American history, corrupt and self-interested politicians in Congress are making life harder for people, not easier,' he said.

Shah, a practising emergency medicine physician, previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives, winning three consecutive elections in 2018, 2020, and 2022. His campaign says he had more bills signed into law than any Arizona Democrat over the past decade during his five years in the legislature. His state-level work focused on increasing teacher pay, supporting small businesses, and improving public health and safety. He has already represented parts of the First Congressional District in Maricopa County as a state representative, giving him name recognition in a portion of the constituency.

Beyond his legislative career, Shah's identity as an emergency room physician is central to his congressional campaign. He has advocated for lowering healthcare costs, reducing high prescription drug prices — including insulin — and protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. His platform also includes banning members of Congress from trading stocks and defending abortion rights.
