Beirut/Jerusalem, July 25 (NationPress) A member of Hezbollah was reported dead following a wave of airstrikes conducted by Israeli warplanes and drones aimed at southern Lebanon, as per the Lebanese Health Ministry and various sources.
The Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, associated with Lebanon's Ministry of Health, confirmed on Thursday that a drone attack on a vehicle in Aita al-Shaab within the Bint Jbeil district resulted in one casualty, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
An intelligence source from the Lebanese army informed Xinhua that approximately 12 airstrikes were executed by Israeli warplanes across extensive areas in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah installations that had been previously struck in similar operations.
The deceased has been identified as Mustafa Harisi, a member of Hezbollah, according to a Lebanese security source.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that military sites belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon were attacked, which included weapons storage facilities and a rocket launcher.
He emphasized that the presence of such weaponry in the area, along with Hezbollah's activities, represents a clear violation of the agreements between Israel and Lebanon. He also mentioned that the army will persist in its efforts to eliminate any threats to the State of Israel.
Additionally, he confirmed the elimination of a Hezbollah member during the attack in the Aita al-Shaab region.
A ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, mediated by the US and France, has been effective since late November of last year, ceasing hostilities that arose from the conflict in Gaza.
Regardless of the ceasefire, the Israeli army continues to conduct strikes in Lebanon, asserting that they are targeting Hezbollah “threats,” while maintaining its presence at five critical points along the Lebanese border.
In another development, the Lebanese army reported the apprehension of three individuals linked to a terror cell supporting the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the cell was receiving directives from IS operatives abroad to execute security operations against the Lebanese army, as stated by the Army Command's Orientation Directorate.
The army reiterated its commitment to national security and preventing any attempts to destabilize the country, stating that efforts are ongoing to capture additional members of the terror cell.
