Tianjin, Aug 31 (NationPress) Chinese media express a sense of hope that the relationship between New Delhi and Beijing will remain stable in the upcoming period, following a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

This encounter is perceived as a move to enhance bilateral ties and build on the recent progress, particularly amid the backdrop of escalating US tariff threats.

The previous engagement between the two leaders occurred during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, in 2024.

Commenting on the discussions, Shen Shiwei, a CGTN Digital reporter and founder of the China Briefing newsletter, remarked to IANS, "The border disputes have been a source of tension, but there have been recent improvements, and we hope this trend continues."

Regarding the significance of the summit, Shiwei termed it the "largest SCO Summit ever" and noted the organization's evolution over the last two decades.

He emphasized that the organisation has "expanded considerably and garnered significant attention."

"Two key topics are on the agenda - strategic dialogue among all leaders, which will encompass both multilateral meetings and various bilateral discussions; and the approval of the Tianjin declaration, which will set a course for growth and advancement for the organisation and its member states in the coming decades," Shiwei stated.

Addressing the geopolitical ramifications of the summit, Nelson Pancini De Sa, a journalist from Brazil's Folha de S.Paulo, pointed out that the convergence of PM Modi, Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin could be "symbolic" in redefining the global order amidst Washington's tariff threats.

Speaking with IANS, he mentioned, "The SCO is a strategic alliance, and the collaboration between India, China, and Russia is noteworthy. The unity of these leaders symbolizes the power of these nations in Asia, a continent poised for future prominence. Putin has historically linked India and China and is likely to continue this role."

He further emphasized that the SCO summit holds potential for enhanced stability along the India-China border.

"The SCO has consistently fostered stability in Central and South Asia through dialogue, and its effectiveness remains to be seen," Nelson Pancini De Sa concluded.
