Aden, July 3 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, one individual lost their life and 14 others sustained injuries when Houthi militants launched a drone assault on a gas station in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz on Thursday, reported a government official.

The attack unfolded at dawn, targeting the Qadasi gas station situated northeast of Taiz city, according to the local official, who spoke under the condition of anonymity.

The explosive strike resulted in the death of one civilian and left over 14 individuals injured, with several in critical condition. Emergency responders transported all the injured to a nearby public hospital for urgent care.

In the wake of the attack, intense clashes erupted between Yemeni government forces and Houthi militias on the eastern front near the explosion site.

The Yemen Ministry of Defence confirmed the event on its official website, stating that drones were utilized by the Houthis to target the fuel tanks at the gas station. The explosion led to the complete devastation of the gas station and ignited several nearby homes.

Civil defense teams successfully extinguished the flames and provided aid to the injured, as per the ministry's statement.

As of now, the Houthi group has not released any statement regarding this attack.

Since late 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a brutal civil war, with the Houthis opposing the internationally recognized Yemeni government, according to reports by Xinhua news agency.

The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of persistently launching drone and missile assaults on various regions under its control, resulting in civilian casualties and significant material destruction.

Earlier on Tuesday, Yemen's Houthi group claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile launch aimed at Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel.

In a televised statement on Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, military spokesperson Yahya Sarea claimed they executed a 'special military operation' targeting Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv using a hypersonic ballistic missile of the Palestine-2 type.

Sarea asserted that the missile strike 'successfully achieved its goal' by forcing 'millions of settlers into shelters and disrupting airport operations.'

Additionally, Sarea indicated that a series of one-way unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) strikes targeted what he labeled as 'three sensitive sites' in Eilat, Tel Aviv, and Ashkelon.

He reiterated the group's stance to continue military operations 'in support of the Palestinian people' until Israel ceases its military actions in Gaza.
