London, July 3 (NationPress) Alex de Minaur triumphed over French qualifier Arthur Cazaux in a thrilling four-set match, while Jakub Mensik and Jan-Lennard Struff also secured victories to move forward into the men’s singles third round at Wimbledon on Thursday.
The dynamic Australian rallied from an initial set loss to conquer Cazaux with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, and 6-0, in an engaging battle that lasted two hours and 48 minutes on No. 2 Court. De Minaur, who made it to the quarterfinals last year, showed resilience after dropping the first set and did not face a single break point in the last three sets.
After a first-round exit to Jiri Lehecka at the Queen’s Club, De Minaur has bounced back impressively this week. Currently ranked No. 11 in the ATP Rankings, he is set to face the winner of the match between qualifier August Holmgren and Tomas Machac.
NextGenATP star Jakub Mensik also advanced to the third round after a hard-fought victory against Marcos Giron with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and 7-6(4), matching his best performance at a Grand Slam event.
This two-hour and 51-minute win made the 19-year-old the youngest Czech man to reach Wimbledon’s third round since Tomas Berdych in 2005. His next challenge will be against Flavio Cobolli, who defeated British wildcard Jack Pinnington Jones 6-1, 7-6(8), 6-2.
Mensik has had an impressive start to the 2025 season, highlighted by clinching his first title at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami, where he stunned his idol Novak Djokovic in the final.
Jan-Lennard Struff prevailed over 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 3-6, 7-6(9), 6-3, 6-4, setting up a matchup with two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz. Struff made a comeback on Wednesday night to win the second set before their match was halted due to darkness. The German returned with determination, leveling his ATP head-to-head series with Auger-Aliassime at 3-3.
