Aden, July 2 (NationPress) The Houthi group in Yemen has declared that it was behind the ballistic missile attack aimed at Ben Gurion Airport located in central Israel.
During a televised announcement aired by the Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV, military spokesperson Yahya Sarea stated on Tuesday that they executed a "special military operation targeting Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv using a hypersonic ballistic missile of the Palestine-2 variety."
Sarea asserted that the missile strike "successfully achieved its objective" by compelling "millions of settlers to seek shelter and causing disruptions to airport operations."
Additionally, he mentioned that a series of one-way unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assaults targeted what he labeled as "three sensitive sites" in Eilat, Tel Aviv, and Ashkelon, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.
The Houthi representative reiterated the group's commitment to continue military actions "in support of the Palestinian people" until Israel ceases its military operations in Gaza.
Earlier, the Israeli military announced that a missile launched by Houthi forces was detected, activating air raid sirens in central and southern regions of the country before it was successfully intercepted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz pledged on Tuesday to retaliate against the Houthi forces following the missile attack.
Since November 2023, the Houthi group has executed numerous missile and drone strikes targeting Israel, claiming these actions are in solidarity with Palestinians in the besieged enclave.
The group, which holds significant control over northern Yemen, has aligned its political and military stance with the Palestinian cause amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In response to these attacks, Israel has conducted airstrikes on critical infrastructure within Houthi-controlled regions of Yemen, targeting energy facilities and military installations.
These retaliatory actions have led to considerable casualties and destruction, according to local Yemeni officials.
