Sanaa, Aug 15 (NationPress) The Houthi armed faction from Yemen has asserted its involvement in a recent attack involving a hypersonic ballistic missile on an airport located in Israel.
In a statement broadcasted by the Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV, military spokesperson Yahya Sarea declared, "The Yemeni armed forces (Houthi forces) executed a significant military operation targeting Ben Gurion Airport with a hypersonic ballistic missile."
Sarea further remarked, "This operation met its objectives successfully, compelling millions of Israelis to seek refuge in shelters and halting airport operations."
The assault is described as "a triumph for the oppressed Palestinian populace" and is framed as a retaliation for what he termed as acts of genocide and starvation perpetrated by their adversaries in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier on the same day, the Israeli Defense Forces reported the detection of a missile launched from Yemen aimed at Israel, which was intercepted by their aerial defense systems, according to Xinhua news agency.
Since the initiation of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, stemming from Hamas's offensive against Israel, the Houthis have executed numerous missile and drone strikes against Israeli targets, citing their support for the Palestinian cause.
In retaliation, Israel has conducted multiple airstrikes in Yemen, including an assault on Hodeidah, a port city, earlier this month.
The Israeli military stated, "After sirens were activated across various regions in Israel, one missile launched from Yemen was intercepted."
In July 2025, the Houthis intensified their attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, targeting vessels they believe have connections to Israel to compel Israel to cease its military actions in Gaza.
Recently, Yemen's Houthi faction revealed that it executed four drone strikes against Israeli cities including Haifa, Negev, Eilat, and Be'er Sheva.
Utilizing six drones, these strikes were declared a success by spokesperson Sarea, who reiterated their purpose was to respond to Israel's alleged plans to eradicate the Palestinian cause through acts of genocide, starvation, and displacement.
Controlling a significant portion of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, the Houthis have been targeting Israeli interests since November 2023 to demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
