Hanoi, Nov 25 (NationPress) India's Ambassador-designate Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa engaged with Nguyen Xuan Thang, a member of Vietnam's Politburo and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMNAP), along with other senior officials from HCMNAP in Hanoi on Tuesday.
Ambassador Sherpa, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 2002 batch, was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Vietnam in September 2023. He previously served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) prior to this latest role.
"Fostering connections across sectors between India and Vietnam. Ambassador-designate Tshering W. Sherpa met with Politburo Member and HCMNAP President H.E. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang and engaged with senior officials of HCMNAP today. Both parties committed to enhancing cooperation and deepening collaboration in vital and emerging technologies," the Embassy of India in Hanoi announced on X.
Recognizing that people-to-people connections are essential to bilateral relations, the Embassy of India and the Indian diaspora in Hanoi highlighted the flavors of Incredible India, showcasing traditional handicrafts and the enchanting art of henna during the International Culinary Cultural Festival in Hanoi last week. Members of the Indian community also performed classical Indian dances at the event.
On November 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with his Vietnamese counterpart, Pham Minh Chinh, in Johannesburg during the G20 Leaders' Summit.
"Our meeting in Johannesburg reaffirmed our commitment to a robust, future-oriented partnership between India and Vietnam," PM Modi expressed on X following their discussion on Saturday.
With Buddhism serving as a spiritual and cultural link between India and Vietnam, the Ambassador-designate also met with Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, at the Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi last week, emphasizing New Delhi's strong dedication to further bolster this unique relationship.
