Thimphu, Nov 11 (NationPress) Emphasizing that the bond between India and Bhutan is rooted in shared values, emotions, peace, and progress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on Tuesday that the advancement and success of both nations are intricately linked.
During his speech at the Changlimethang Ground in Thimphu, PM Modi revealed that India will soon construct an immigration checkpoint near Gelephu to streamline access for visitors and investors.
"From this platform, I am announcing another significant initiative. In the near future, India will also be establishing an immigration checkpoint near Gelephu to further ease the way for visitors and investors. The advancement and success of India and Bhutan are interwoven, and with this spirit, the Indian government last year pledged a contribution of Rs 10,000 crore for Bhutan's Five-Year Plan," PM Modi stated.
"This allocation is being utilized across various sectors, from infrastructure to agriculture, finance to healthcare, enhancing the quality of life for the Bhutanese people. India has previously implemented several measures to ensure a steady supply of essential goods to Bhutan, and now the UPI payment service is also expanding here. We are working to ensure that Bhutanese citizens can access UPI during their visits to India," he continued.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the spiritual bond between the people of India and Bhutan serves as a powerful foundation for their bilateral relationship. He mentioned that both countries are collaboratively developing a satellite, describing it as a notable accomplishment for both nations.
"We are also working together on a satellite project. This is a significant achievement for both India and Bhutan. A key strength of India-Bhutan relations is the profound spiritual connection between our peoples. Just two months ago, the Royal Bhutanese Temple was inaugurated in Rajgir, India. This initiative is now expanding to additional regions of India, responding to the desire of Bhutanese citizens for a temple and guest house in Varanasi. The Indian government is facilitating the provision of necessary land for this. Through these temples, we are further solidifying our rich historical and cultural ties. I hope that India and Bhutan continue on a path of peace, prosperity, and mutual growth. May the blessings of Lord Buddha and Guru Rinpoche be upon our nations," he expressed.
PM Narendra Modi reflected on his initial visit to Bhutan after assuming office in 2014, stating, "India and Bhutan are connected not only by geography but also by culture. Our relationship is founded on values, emotions, peace, and progress. After taking the oath as Prime Minister in 2014, I had the honor of visiting Bhutan as my first foreign destination. The ties between India and Bhutan are so robust that we have stood together in challenging times and continue to strengthen our partnership as we pursue progress and prosperity together."
"Today, we are witnessing the Global Peace Prayer Festival with the blessings of Guru Padmasambhava while also celebrating the sacred relics of Lord Buddha’s teachings. Additionally, we are marking the grand celebration of His Majesty the Fourth King’s 70th birthday. The dignified presence of numerous attendees reflects the strength of the relationship between India and Bhutan," he added.
PM Modi asserted that the most significant benefit of a strong partnership between India and Bhutan is experienced by the youth of both nations.
"His Majesty is making remarkable contributions in national service, voluntary service, and innovation. His vision to empower the youth and equip them with technology is greatly inspiring the young people of Bhutan," he concluded.
