Will PM Modi's Upcoming Visit Renew Canada-India Ties?

Toronto, June 16 (NationPress) The Indian diaspora is buzzing with anticipation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to visit Canada on Monday for the G7 Summit.

This visit represents PM Modi's first official engagement in Canada following a challenging phase in India-Canada relations, and many see it as a potential turning point for both nations.

Invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, PM Modi will be attending the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, which has ignited a wave of excitement among the Indian community in Canada. Many are optimistic that this high-profile engagement will lead to enhanced bilateral relations.

Tarun Jain, an IT professional in Toronto, shared with IANS, "Since the Canadian Prime Minister invited PM Modi, there's been a palpable enthusiasm in the Indian community. We can hardly believe he is coming."

He highlighted the significant contributions of Indians to Canada's economy, stating, "NRIs play a vital role in Canada's economy, including doctors, engineers, and students. Every Indian hopes for improved relations between Canada and India, which would foster progress and development in both countries."

Gautam Sevda, a businessman based in Vancouver, echoed these sentiments, expressing to IANS, "All of us Indians in Canada are thrilled about PM Modi's invitation. This bodes well for both nations. India, being the youngest nation globally, and Canada, with its abundant natural resources, can collaborate effectively."

Entrepreneur Akshay Saxena voiced hope regarding the implications of the visit and the discussions between the leaders, stating, "Our new Prime Minister has initiated a commendable approach. The previous strains in relations between our countries will hopefully be resolved, strengthening ties. Over the past 11 years, India has emerged as the fourth strongest economy, making it a desirable partner for business worldwide," he told IANS.

Meanwhile, Rahul Kumar, an IT professional, reflected on the emotional and economic bonds shared between the two nations. He remarked, "India is our 'janmabhoomi', while Canada is our 'karmabhoomi'. Indians here greatly admire PM Modi. With India being a developing economy and Canada's energy resources, a strong partnership is essential for both countries."

India and Canada faced significant diplomatic turmoil in 2023 after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made unverified accusations against New Delhi, which India categorically denied. In response, India raised concerns about Canada harboring extremist elements and failing to address threats against Indian diplomats.

As the summit approaches, both nations seem poised to leave past grievances behind and enter a new era of cooperation.
