Thimphu, May 13 (NationPress) In a tribute to the invaluable contributions of Indian educators in Bhutan, a publication titled 'Lopons from India: Glimpses of their Life and Work in Bhutan', penned by Thakur S Powdyel, former Bhutanese Minister of Education, was unveiled on Tuesday at the Nehru-Wangchuck Cultural Centre in Thimphu.
During the book's introduction, Powdyel emphasized the pivotal role of Indian teachers in establishing a robust framework for formal education in Bhutan.
This compelling book contains over 20 touching memoirs that vividly portray the journeys of numerous Indian educators who began arriving in Bhutan in the 1960s, making substantial contributions to the evolution of the educational landscape.
Following the launch, current Indian educators in Bhutan shared their experiences, reflecting on the enduring Bhutan India Education Partnership.
The event was graced by the presence of Sudhakar Dalela, Ambassador of India to Bhutan; Lyonpo Yeezang de Thapa, Bhutan’s Minister for Education and Skills Development; Justice Sonam Tobgye, Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Bhutan; and Dasho Arun Kapur, Director of the Royal Academy, Bhutan.
To celebrate the educational partnership, the Indian Embassy in Bhutan organized an outreach program on April 30, focusing on education and skill enhancement.
