New Delhi, March 24 (NationPress) - On Tuesday, Neena Malhotra, the Secretary (South) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), reaffirmed India’s dedication to South-South Cooperation aimed at advancing collaboration in science and technology. This initiative encompasses areas such as affordable healthcare, smart agriculture, and management of water and marine resources, in partnership with nations in the Global South.
During her address at the ‘CSIR Capabilities Discovery Session,’ which included Ambassadors and High Commissioners from the Global South, Malhotra emphasized the importance of these partnerships. She noted, "In her keynote address, Secretary (South) Dr. Neena Malhotra highlighted India’s commitment to fostering S&T collaboration across various sectors to create and implement affordable and scalable solutions that contribute to a sustainable future," as stated by the MEA.
Earlier in January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the necessity for the Global South to explore new pathways. While inaugurating the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) at Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi, he stressed India's role in advocating for the Global South's concerns on international platforms.
Reflecting on India’s G20 Presidency, he pointed out that India prioritized the issues of the Global South within the global agenda. PM Modi reiterated India’s ongoing efforts to ensure that innovations benefit not only its citizens but also partner nations within the Commonwealth.
"In this time of unprecedented global change, we must forge new paths for the Global South. India is actively voicing these concerns across all global forums. During its G20 presidency, India placed the priorities of the Global South at the forefront of global discussions. Our goal is to ensure that any advancements we achieve also benefit the entire Global South and Commonwealth countries. We are establishing open-source technology platforms so our partner nations can develop systems akin to those in India," PM Modi stated.
